💡 About BFA Individualized Studies
Open to students in their second year, the Individualized Studies (INDI) program is an opportunity to combine study across 2D, 3D, time-based media, or writing—and develop your creative voice in the process. You could blend painting and directing, performance and industrial design, or even all of the above.
DIY curriculum
With mentorship, students create their own personalized curriculum, combining areas of study across Design and Fine Arts. You can choose from programs such as Animation, Ceramics, Fashion Design, Film, Furniture, Graphic Design, Illustration, Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Interior Design, Jewelry and Metal Arts, Painting and Drawing, Photography, Printmedia, Sculpture, and Textiles.
🛠️ Open studio access
Individualized Studies students can realize their research and ideas in spaces across campus, whether in drawing studios or digital labs. You might screen print on plaster and wet clay or learn how to animate your illustrations. Take Ethan Caflisch (BFA Individualized Studies 2015), who blended ceramics, interior design, painting, and film at CCA and professionally works as an on-set art director while exhibiting internationally.
Book Arts and Letterpress Studio
You’ll find CCA’s Book Arts workspace for creating hand-bound works and letterpress just around the corner from campus at the San Francisco Center for the Book. Tools and equipment include Vandercook letterpresses, drying racks, paper cutters, book presses, and more.
Media Center
Check out audio equipment, video cameras, lighting kits, DSLRs, projectors, lenses from the Media Center, which offers one-week equipment checkout services to all current students, faculty, and staff. Other services include AV support and extended checkouts for campus exhibitions.
