Join some clubs!

At Columbia, there are over 500 opportunities to explore, to grow, to lead and to share, with support from a variety of offices like Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs . With options ranging from identity-based groups to intramural sports, board games clubs to pre-professional societies, clubs are a great way to learn new skills and find like-minded peers.

Multicultural Affairs advises over 40 cultural and identity-based student organizations, providing support, resources, mentorship and advocacy. Student leaders on the Multicultural Affairs Advisory Council engage our campus on issues of social responsibility and social justice. Opportunities like our First Gen/Low Income @ Columbia dialogues and Columbia Mentoring Initiative allow students to reflect on their own identities, learn about critical histories and build stronger relationships from within shared communities.

Traditions

Columbia students come together to celebrate everything from holidays to cultural events, sports, and more. Some of our most beloved campus traditions include:
Varsity Show: Columbia’s oldest performing arts tradition, the Varsity Show is entirely student-produced and has entertained students and faculty alike since 1894, with sold-out performances that satirize life at Columbia.
Tree Lighting: In early December, students gather on College Walk for the dazzling and moving celebration of tradition and holiday spirit. Students connect with friends to drink hot cocoa, watch a cappella performances, and be merry!
Homecoming: Every October students, alumni, and families gather at our football field (the only one in Manhattan!) to cheer on our football team.
