Flexible Distribution Requirements

Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication

Study Abroad

⭐ Flexible Distribution Requirements

With the goal of giving undergraduates a broad education beyond their major, Rice has established flexible distribution requirements as part of the requirements for graduation. By the time they graduate, students must take classes in each of the humanities, social sciences and applied sciences. Rice builds flexibility into the requirements so that students have the freedom to select the courses that interest them most.

⭐ Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication

The Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication offers courses in 10 languages. Our faculty-led summer study abroad programs, Rice in Country, allow students to earn Rice credit while studying a language and experiencing another culture. We award the Certificate in Language and Intercultural Communication, a method for undergraduate students to demonstrate second language ability. Learn more by visiting our website.

⭐ Study Abroad

Study abroad offers exciting opportunities for academic enrichment and gaining new perspectives abroad, an unparalleled experience greatly enhancing your life and shaping who you will become. Rice students have access to 150 study abroad programs in 60+ countries on every continent. About 30% of Rice students engage in international experiences, soaking up other cultures while conducting research, engaging in service, or earning academic credit. Learn more online.
