At UCSC we have a team of professional staff and student leaders who specialize in working with transfer, re-entry, and independent students. Our community is known as STARRS - short for Services for Transfer, Re-Entry, & Resilient Scholars. We offer culturally relevant counseling and mentorship programs, and actively remove systemic barriers in order to create access, cultivate belonging, motivate persistence, and nurture wellness.
The STARRS lounge is equipped with study spaces, a computer lab with FREE printing, testing materials, and a personal care pantry! There is also a study room available for reservation. The STARRS Center is also home to the Veterans Resource Center. The lounge is located on the second floor of the Kresge College Administrative Building, above the Kresge College Office.

💛 Resources & Support
UC Santa Cruz recognizes that many students have different learning styles, educational backgrounds, and may require accommodations to ensure a positive academic experience. Whether it's connecting with fellow students to learn in peer-to-peer groups, access to specialized equipment, or supportive staff with experience assisting under resourced communities, our campus is here to help make your learning experience a positive one. We highly encourage students to use academic support services as they are paid for through your tuition.
Slug Facts about academic support:
- Our Modified Supplemental Instruction program provides out-of-class practice sessions for students to work together on practice problems, go over key concepts as a group, prepare for exams collaboratively, and build community!
- Our Educational Opportunity Program promotes the retention and academic success of first generation college students from low-income families and low performing schools.
- We also have Services for Transfer and Re Entry Students, and our Veterans Education Team Support Program.
