Safety Services

Residence Life

🚨 Safety Services

Student safety is very important to NDSU so we have many safety services in place. We have an app called Pathlight that the NDSU Police Department can use to monitor your location if you ever feel unsafe walking from one location to another. We also have blue light poles around campus that can put you in contact with an officer in an emergency. A police escort service is also available 24/7 for students. In addition, NDSU also provides Sexual Assault Prevention and Advocacy, Safe Zone Training, counseling services, health promotion, and more.

Pathlight

Pathlight is a personal safety and security smartphone app that is available to use 24/7. Students can provide a final destination and estimated time to get to that location. From there, the app tracks the location of the individual, and it can send emergency services if the destination is not reached or with the touch of a button.

Blue Light Poles

There are several blue poles with a bright blue light on top scattered throughout campus. These poles contain a button that individuals can press if they feel as if they are in danger. When the button is pressed, police will be on sight within 120 seconds.

Police Escorts

If students fell uncomfortable at any point they can ask to be escorted to various locations on or near campus. The service is available 24/7.

Timely Warning

If a crime occurs on or near campus students will receive a timely warning. These alerts make the campus community more aware of their surroundings.

🏠 Residence Life

NDSU Residence Life provides more than a bed, we provide a place to grow, learn, connect, explore, and make an impact. You can create the experience you want. All first-year students are required to live on campus their first year and can choose from thirteen different residence halls.

Residence Hall Amenities

All residence halls offer furnished rooms, printing stations, on-site mail, coinless laundry, cleaning supplies, cable, RHA Cinema (free streaming service), recreation and media rooms, study lounges, community kitchen (with pots, pans, etc. to check out), vending machines, Wi-Fi, hall office with games, videos, entertainment options, and secure keyless card entrances.

Hall Government

Every hall has a hall government. This organization plans hall events and functions as a voice for the hall residents. Popular hall events include "Channing Tatertottum" (Channing Tatum movie + tater tots), Super Bowl parties, and Mario Kart Tournaments. Hall government offers great opportunities to meet other students and to become more comfortable within your specific hall.

Residence Hall Staff

Every hall has a hall director and student resident assistants (RA's). Hall directors are full-time, highly trained professionals that live in the halls. Residence assistants are current students who are trained to support students in their halls. They help students learn about campus and make friends. Both are trained to help with roommate conflict if it arises.

Roommate Selection

You can choose from several different ways to find your roommate! Incoming first-year students can use a service, My College Roomie, to find their roommate. My College Roomie allows you to complete a survey and will match you up with compatible people based on your answers. Students can also choose to simply be paired up with another incoming student. If you choose to go that route, NDSU Residence Life will simply notify you once your roommate has been assigned. NDSU also has a LGBTQ+ and Ally Roommate Matching program. This matching form takes the place of My College Roomie.

Residence Life Leadership

On the first floor of Cater Hall, you can find the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) office. RHA is a student leadership organization that oversees the Hall Governments in all of the residence halls which allows students to enact change and plan events for their residence halls and for Residence Life as a whole. NRHH is a leadership honorary that values recognition and service and provides many volunteering and recognition opportunities across campus.
