ACES
The ACES Program Experience
The Academic Center for English Language Studies (ACES) is an intensive reading and writing learning community for high-achieving immigrant students for whom English is a new language.
As an ACES student, you’ll take for-credit reading and writing courses that will help sharpen your English skills and provide the confidence you’ll need for success in college and beyond.
The ACES Program also offers academic support outside of the classroom in the form of one-on-one tutoring and advising from faculty and staff members during your time at St. Joseph’s. We’ll even help you with career counseling and guide you through the graduate school admissions process.
Additionally, ACES students can take advantage of fantastic cultural opportunities, such as outings to Broadway shows, BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music), MoMA (Metropolitan Museum of Art) and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. You’ll connect with your classmates while exploring the vibrancy that is New York City through these experiences.
In addition to educational assistance and professional guidance, each ACES student receives an annual $14,000 grant, bringing the cost of a private college education within your reach.
For more information about the ACES Program, please contact Emily Cementina, ACES assistant director, at ecementina@sjny.edu.

👩🎓🧑💻⚗️👩🏫 Academic Programs
SJNY programs include undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare students for career opportunities upon graduation. There are a variety of certificate programs and minors developed to enhance educational and career goals. At St. Joseph's University, New York, you'll experience a small classroom environment, which encourages student engagement with faculty and peers, as well as experiential education opportunities through service learning courses, internships, and co-curricular programs and activities. There are also plenty of rigorous research opportunities. Additionally, the University boasts academic and co-curricular programs and activities that enhance civic responsibility and engagement.
Study Abroad
Since 2002, St. Joseph's University, New York's Office of Global Studies has provided a global learning experience. Our long- and short-term programs take students beyond the diverse ideas presented in the classroom, exposing them to a global environment of ideas, cultures and ways of life.
From the historic architecture of Italy to the green pastures of Ireland and experiential learning experiences in Nicaragua, our students have taken advantage of opportunities not offered in the classroom.
In recent years, interest in short-term programs has dramatically increased and the office, working in conjunction with faculty, has developed many programs. Short-term programs that have been developed include Argentina, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and Spain.
Unlike most colleges, St. Joseph's University has valued study abroad by funding student study abroad experiences in faculty-led and/or semester long programs. This has made study abroad accessible to all students. St. Joseph's University scholarships apply to tuition abroad. The University also grants a significant number of $500-$2,000 stipends for faculty-led programs.

Internships and Service Learning
Experiential learning provides college students with the skills and information necessary to succeed in their future careers. Because of this, many of the academic programs at St. Joseph’s University, New York's programs offer and/or require student participation in internships and service-learning experiences. These opportunities also allow our students the ability to truly immerse themselves in the meaning of St. Joseph’s five pillars: integrity, intellectual rigor, spiritual depth, social responsibility and service.
At our Brooklyn Campus, experiential learning is offered two ways: curricular or co-curricular. Curricular refers to a credit-bearing course with a service-learning or applied-learning requirement. Co-curricular refers to non-credit-bearing involvement.
