Campus Life at the President's Lawn
The President’s Lawn is a hub of student life, regardless of the season. We begin the academic year in September, when you can find students laying out in the grass and soaking up the sun while studying, having club meetings, or catching up with friends. Come fall, the Prez Lawn is littered in the most idyllic red, yellow, and orange leaves. During the first snowfall of every year, the Prez Lawn is full of students taking a break from their work to sled down the Hill. Then, at the end of April, the Prez Lawn is once again the center of student life, hosting our yearly Spring Fling concert. The variety and multitude of Tufts students’ interests are not just limited to our many uses for the President’s Lawn.
Tufts students are incredibly engaged in all we do, which explains the over 300 student clubs and organizations on campus. These clubs range from community service-based to club sports, debate, dance, music, political groups, pre-professional and cultural groups. Some of our student tour guide's favorite clubs on campus are Animal Aid, a subgroup of the Leonard Carmichael Society, where students take care of Medford and Somerville residents’ pets, and The Tufts Daily, our daily independent student newspaper. Another awesome club at Tufts is Tufts Mountain Club, or TMC, whose motto is simply “Go outside.” TMC runs and maintains the Loj, our New Hampshire basecamp for all kinds of trips students may go on. It’s a great way to get off campus and immerse yourself in nature. One of the most popular clubs on campus is Tufts Dance Collective, a dance club for students that have no clue how to dance. The show sells out almost immediately – it’s a ton of fun for everyone involved!
Tufts students choose to be so active and involved because they truly want to immerse ourselves in everything the university has to offer, especially because so many of those opportunities lie in meeting fellow Jumbos. Student life here is defined not only by a love of learning, but also by a mutual respect and support for our fellow Tufts community members. Here at Tufts we engage outside of the classroom just as much as we do inside the classroom, if not more! We take our academics seriously but also don’t take ourselves too seriously. Curious, creative, and collaborative, Tufts students look for opportunities to learn more about the world around them, their peers, and themselves at every corner.
