Dewick-MacPhie Dining Center
We are currently located at the Dewick-MacPhie Dining Center, or Dewick for short. There are two main dining centers on campus—Dewick, the downhill dining hall, and Carmichael Hall, or Carm, which is the uphill dining hall. Both dining centers are open seven days a week. Tufts Dining believes in providing diverse options to nourish every student throughout their four years, and Tufts is proud to be known for our delicious food from around the world. You can grab a pain au chocolat along with a cup of French vanilla medium roast coffee on my way to class in the morning, have the best Singaporian stir-fry rice noodles with a glass of OJ in the afternoon, and a bowl of lovely Spaghetti Bolognese along with some good ole strawberry ice cream sandwich with your roommate for dinner.
As you can see, Tufts dining menus focus on a wide variety of flavorful healthy entrees, sides, snacks, and desserts, including vegetarian, vegan, kosher, halal, and allergy-free options. The food is made fresh on site daily and served by kind employees who care about our dining experience. Every Tufts student has a strong opinion about whether Dewick or Carmichael is the best dining hall— Carm is known for its friendly, intimate atmosphere and pleasing variety. “Create your own” stir-fry nights. Hearty salads. Comfort foods like mac and cheese and chicken pot pie. It also makes hand-tossed pizzas on our own homemade dough, has Pho Night once a week, and serves up delectable desserts baked daily in our own bake shop. Also we shouldn’t forget to mention the soft-serve ice cream, frozen yogurt, or Sundae Sundays.
On the other hand, Dewick, the downhill dining hall, serves a great variety of delicious food made from scratch and always fresh. With a large and open serving area, abundant seating, and flavorful food prepared on the spot, Dewick is another favorite dining location on campus. Here, you’ll find ten food stations in a marketplace style, cheerful staff, and something for everyone’s tastes including a vast salad bar and the largest selection of vegetarian and vegan food on campus. There is also an All-Nine-Free station, amazing food free of any traces of Eggs, Fish, Gluten, Milk, Peanuts, Sesame, Shellfish, Soy, and Tree Nuts.
Every first-year student is enrolled in a “Premium” meal plan, which gives them, everyday, five swipes for breakfast, five swipes for lunch, and five swipes for dinner. With these 15 daily swipes, students can basically enter the dining halls whenever they want and as frequently as they want. If you’re in a hurry, you can also convert the five swipes of a dining session into a dollar value, which you can use at Hodgdon Food-on-the-Run to get snacks, quesadillas, bagels, sushi plates, or rice bowls to have in your room or as a snack during the lecture, if the professor permits, of course.
The dining halls are not the only place where you can get food or drinks. We have frequent student and faculty destinations in different parts of campus, including Kindlevan Café, Hotung Café, Commons Marketplace, and Tower Café. We also have an all student-run coffee shop. The cafes serve freshly-brewed espresso drinks sourced from local Sun Coffee Roasters, Starbucks, and Seattle’s, espresso drinks, hot sandwiches, and pastry goods like muffins, croissants, and chocolate chip cookies. Kindlevan and Hutung, located respectively in the Science and Engineering Complex and the Campus Center, offer some of the best smoothies. These are the places where you can use JumboCash, which is a debit card system integrated into our student IDs that can be refilled anytime. You can also pay with credit cards, including contactless payment options you may have on your smartphone.
