The SMFA at Tufts, or School of the Museum of Fine Arts, is home to Tufts' interdisciplinary BFA programs and is located directly next door to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston's Fenway neighborhood.

The School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts, located in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston, is Tufts interdisciplinary art program. All SMFA graduates earn a BFA in any of our 16 areas of concentration. Like all Tufts students, SMFA students are completely allowed to takes classes across schools within Tufts University.
School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts
The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts, or SMFA, is Tufts' interdisciplinary studio-art school that is rooted in a conceptually-driven education. SMFA students never declare a major; allowing SMFA students to explore all of our offerings and studios as they pursue either a four-year BFA or the five-year Combined Degree program which allows students to get both a BFA from the SMFA and a BS or BA from the School of Arts & Sciences in five years. So despite coming in as, say, a painter, you can take welding and installation and sound art courses to inform who you are as an artist and how you are communicating your message to broader communities.
Students work closely with advisors and professional-artist faculty to design a personalized curriculum. They are encouraged to enrich their studio investigations through engagement with their other academic interests, as well as the resources of the Museum of Fine Arts (literally right across the street!) This unusual access, and emphasis on art-making as a form of research, produces students who make innovative artwork and leave our school ready to impact a wide range of fields.
