We’re currently on top of Tisch Library, our main undergraduate library on campus. Tisch is the perfect spot for some late-night studying, but it’s also home to a wide variety of resources. Looking for research material for that Film and Media Studies essay you’ve been working on? You can set up an appointment with one of our many librarians who specialize in various subjects. Want to produce some audio files for that podcast you’re finishing up? You can reserve a time in our Digital Design Studio and work with state-of-the-art equipment. Thinking about meeting with a Spanish tutor over coffee in the Tower Café? You can schedule an appointment with one of the Student Accessibility and Academic Resource Center’s various tutors and writing fellows. Tufts offers a wide variety of resources for its students, and Tisch Library is the perfect place to access them.

Now, let’s look off into the distance at the beautiful Boston skyline. Don’t you just feel like you’re in a movie? You might be surprised to see just how close Boston is to Tufts. In fact, we’re only a mere walk—or a quick shuttle ride—to Davis Square, where a train station will take you into downtown Boston in a matter of minutes. And in December of 2022 , Boston's subway system, the T, got even closer to Tufts with the opening of a new green line stop aptly names Medford/Tufts, directly across Boston Ave from the main academic quad.

Davis Square is a cultural hub, home to various amazing restaurants and shops. A favorite spot is the Somerville Theatre, an over 100-year-old local movie theater and community performance spot. Somerville Theatre is the best place to watch the latest blockbuster or see a 70mm classic. Students also love Socco’s Bowling Haven, which serves delicious flatbread pizza to its customers while they play some old-fashioned candlepin bowling. But regardless of where you go, Davis is a great social spot for Tufts students. Plenty of places accept Jumbo Cash, too!

But for some, nothing beats Boston. It’s a quick train ride away from Tufts, so plenty of students go into the city for museums, art shows, dining, clubs, beautiful parks, and more. Lots of places offer free student tickets and discounts too. And while Boston can certainly feel like a big college town thanks to all of its universities, it’s also a great spot for internships. Tufts students regularly find internships in Boston thanks to the Tufts Career Center, a resource that helps build resumes and interviewing skills while also connecting students to Tufts alums and various career opportunities. Plenty of students also find internships through their academic departments. Thanks to Film and Media Studies’ internship administrator Leslie Goldberg, I got an amazing summer internship with the Boston International Kids Film Festival.

There never a shortage of activity on campus, so Tufts students truly have the best of both worlds: we have a lively, suburban, residential campus where it’s easy to build community, and a big city just at our fingertips.
