Penn First Plus

Penn First Plus (P1P) is dedicated to supporting the needs of students who are the first in their families to pursue a four-year undergraduate degree and/or come from financially under-resourced communities. You may have heard the term FGLI (pronounced FIG-lee) to refer to students who may identify as first-generation to college and/or low-income. At Penn, we expand the traditional FGLI definition to acknowledge students of all backgrounds who have limited familiarity with highly selective well-resourced institutions like Penn. Penn First Plus can serve as your advocate as you navigate both finances and academics in college.

Finding Community and Accessing Resources

Penn First Plus hosts all kinds of events to support students including “Budgeting Your Refund” and “Welcome Back Snacks.” During “Welcome Back Snacks,” you’ll get to celebrate making it through the first week of classes with sweet and savory treats. At “Budgeting Your Refund” you can learn about student account refunds and how to budget them to make the most of your financial situation.

Committed Support

P1P offers Ambassador Training to further enhance faculty and staff knowledge and skills on topics that have direct impact on first-generation and/or lower-income students’ college transition, academic success, and sense of belonging on campus.
