The Office of Pre-Professional and Graduate Advising is part of Career Services, a division of Student Affairs, at the University of South Carolina. The Office serves thousands of students planning to attend professional school after graduation. Our students hope to attend medical, dental, veterinary, law, or other professional or graduate school. We are here to help them prepare for that process. Our Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry isn't just one of the best in the Southeast; it's one of the strongest in the country. We have world-class research programs in analytical, biochemistry and molecular biology, environmental, inorganic, organic, physical and theoretical, and polymer chemistry, with many highly successful interdisciplinary collaborations. Understanding and caring for our planet requires an appreciation of the sweeping arc from the solid earth, to freshwater and marine systems, to the relationship of humans to those environments. Our mission at the School of the Earth, Ocean & Environment is to achieve an understanding of Earth’s diverse environments and human relationships through research and to convey that understanding through education and outreach to the broader community. In 1866 the University of South Carolina opened one of the nation’s first state-supported pharmacy schools. Majoring in Biological Sciences provides students with the foundation for a wide range of careers, including jobs in medicine and allied fields, education, biotechnology, environmental agencies and NGOs, science writing, forensic science, research, law, marine biology, and more. Our ties to several national and international laboratories and physics-related industries, as well as our interdisciplinary efforts, provide students with access to cutting-edge research in almost all areas of contemporary physics. We have an excellent record of launching our undergraduate and graduate degree recipients in rewarding jobs, with the majority of them going on to successful careers in research, academia and industry all over the world.
