Callaway Center

One of the Atlanta campus’s original buildings, the Callaway Center opened in 1919 as the Physics Building. Today, with the addition of its northern wing, Callaway is one of the largest academic buildings on campus. The Callaway Center is home to several humanities departments, including English, creative writing, religion, Middle Eastern and South Asian studies, and Spanish and Portuguese. It is also home to the Emory Writing Center. No matter what you’re doing there, the Callaway Center is a great place for liberal arts students to strengthen their skills in the humanities.

Emory's Creative Writing Department

The Writing Center

⭐ Emory's Creative Writing Department

Emory’s Creative Writing program is one of the top creative writing programs in the country. Jericho Brown, the head of the department, won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 2020 for his anthology The Tradition. Students in the Creative Writing program take a mix of workshops and English classes to pursue interests in poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, playwriting, and screenwriting. Students from all disciplines are able to take creative writing classes, and events such as readings, open mic nights, and featured authors are open to all Emory Students.

⭐ The Writing Center

The Emory Writing Center is located within Callaway and is a great resource for Emory students. The Writing Center employs undergraduate and graduate students who are ready to help students at all writing levels and at all different stages of the composing process. Writing tutors are able to help you with anything from a brainstorm to a final draft through discussion and workshop-based tutorials. The Writing Center provides tutoring in all of the languages that Emory offers, so students are able to bring their papers from any class. No matter what your experience is with writing, the Writing Center is here to help.
