Haygood-Hopkins Gate
Marking the main entrance to the Atlanta campus, the gate, constructed in 1937, memorializes Emory’s history before the university relocated to Atlanta and was meant to deepen the connection between Emory’s newer Atlanta campus and the original campus in Oxford. It’s named after two Emory graduates, Atticus Greene Haygood and Isaac Stiles Hopkins, who later served as presidents of Emory University. Today, it is one of the campus’s most iconic landmarks and a great location for photo opportunities.

The Emory Gate Crossing is one of the newest traditions at Emory. Every year, enthusiastic alumni, faculty, staff, and fellow students come together to welcome the newest members of the Emory community, leading them toward a momentous occasion: the iconic Coke Toast, a hallmark Emory tradition on the Quad.
