The Outing Club provides logistical and gear support for trips, organizes various campus-wide activities, and helps to train and educate students and future trip leaders in a manner that is both ecologically sound and safe.
In the Glen House, you’ll find equipment rentals, trip leader training, and advanced instructor courses. Activities include backpacking, canoeing, kayaking (sea and whitewater), climbing, ice-climbing, winter camping, cross country skiing, and as many other outdoor pursuits as possible! Weekend trips to the Adirondacks are common, and longer expeditions are organized during breaks to locations such as Nepal, Ecuador, Kenya, Arizona, Maine, Utah, the Everglades, and anywhere else students want to go.

Orientation
Hamilton’s Orientation program and the Orientation Adventure Trips are focused on connections with a small group of fellow new students and student leaders, and introductions to campus resources. Hamilton offers three branches of orientation adventure trips that provide a fun and friendly atmosphere for easing new students into college life. While the focus and activities of each trip will differ, the core objectives are always the same.
Orientation trip options include: Exploration Adventure – Explore a theme or topic, while learning more about the local community and central New York; Adirondack Adventure – There are a variety of trips to choose from, everything from beginning canoeing to challenging hiking or rock climbing. In groups of eight to 12, students spend a day on campus preparing for a four-day wilderness camping trip; Outreach Adventure – This option gives students the chance to explore the area surrounding Hamilton. Activities may include serving in a meal program for the homeless, working with Habitat for Humanity, helping with a summer program for children at a local museum or performing environmental service work.
