Harper Memorial Library
Harper Memorial Library is an academic hub on campus and a popular study spot for undergraduate students. After class, you’ll often find students hitting the books in the stately Third Floor Reading Room, or chatting with friends in Harper Café, one of many student-run coffee shops on campus.

College Core Tutor Program
Harper Memorial Library is home to the College Core Tutor Program— a peer-based tutoring program for UChicago undergraduates designed to provide one-on-one assistance and small group support to undergraduate students in scientific and quantitative subjects, including chemistry, economics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, and biology. Writing Tutors provide support to students in the Humanities, helping them develop and improve the organization, coherence, and argumentative sophistication of their essays, from the crucial moments of brainstorming and questioning, to drafted/outlined material, to full drafts. Our tutors are upperclassmen in the College with exceptional academic records or graduate students—many of them former Teaching Assistants in Core courses.
Center for College Student Success
Harper Memorial Library is also where you’ll find the Center for College Student Success (CCSS), which empowers first-generation, lower-income, and immigrant students in the College by providing resources and tools that promote student success—including a lending library, a laptop lending program, and food security options—and by hosting community events that build positive self-identity and reinforce a sense of belonging at UChicago.
Academic Advising
UChicago believes that providing comprehensive support for all students is essential for academic success. At the beginning of their first year, students in the College are paired with a dedicated Academic Advisor and Career Advisor, who work closely with students to develop and meet their academic, personal, and professional goals, supporting them throughout their entire time as an undergraduate. Students also have access to coordinated and comprehensive medical care, counseling, psychiatry, and health promotion services targeted at building and maintaining overall well-being.
