Rockefeller Chapel
Named for John D. Rockefeller, who helped to found the University of Chicago in 1890, Rockefeller Memorial Chapel is really more of a cathedral. Inside, you’ll find the carillon, which is a system of bells that can be played on a specialized keyboard. The carillon at UChicago is the largest musical instrument ever assembled!

Office of Spiritual Life
Reporting to Rockefeller Chapel, the Spiritual Life Office serves as a destination for all things spiritual and religious at the University of Chicago. Spiritual Life addresses the complexities of religious encounter in the twenty-first century and provides a space for members of the University community to ask big and small questions about meaning and purpose.
Spiritual Life offers places, metaphorical and literal, to connect, understand, ask, and explore. The Office encourages integrative spiritual practice, including programs that cross traditional religious boundaries, as well as supporting members of particular traditions. Campus-wide programs like Spirit Week celebrate spiritual diversity on campus. Spiritual Life also convenes the Spiritual Life Council, a group of students that gathers weekly for interfaith dialogue, leadership development, event planning, and fun!
