Located in the heart of USF Tampa, the MLK Plaza highlights the activism of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and reinforces the importance of diversity on our campus. The plaza is modeled after the National Mall in Washington, D.C., including the iconic Reflecting Pool, where Dr. King gave his most famous speech, “I Have a Dream.”
The centerpiece, a bust of Dr. King, overlooks the reflecting pool across from an inclined granite monument where we’ve engraved a substantial excerpt from the "I Have a Dream" speech. Five granite bands extend from the base of the bust, pointing toward five cities where important events occurred in Dr. King's life. The city names are inscribed on the end of each band.
This monument is a testament to USF's welcoming community, where you can learn alongside students from all walks of life and a multitude of perspectives.
