Central Campus Residence Hall for First-Year students

The newest and one or the largest residential buildings on campus, Central Campus Residence appeals for its skyway connection to Howe Library, bustling dining facility, Discovery Kitchen featuring cooking classes, and proximity to main campus classrooms. It is also home to UVM's celebrated Wellness Environment, aka "WE," one of UVM's nine Learning Communities in which students who share an interest live together. Students in WE explore brain science connected to wellness.

Other learning communities at UVM include Arts & Creativity, Cultural Crossroads, Honors College, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Leadership & Social Change, Liberal Arts Scholars Program, Outdoor Experience, and Sustainability.

You Home Away From Home, Learning Communities

⭐ You Home Away From Home, Learning Communities

For most UVM students, the housing experience takes place in Learning Communities which are designed to bring students with a shared interest together and—most importantly—provide a feeling of home. Learning communities are built around a common theme, faculty engagement, and accessible events and activities. Each community is expected to address core issues of social justice and inclusion.

These communities create opportunities for academic engagement outside the classroom, intentional integration of academics, enhanced student connection within themes, and thoughtful programming. Learning communities bring students with similar interests together. Most first year UVM students live in one of eight themed learning communities: Arts & Creativity, Cultural Crossroads, Honors College, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Leadership & Social Change, Outdoor Experience, Sustainability and Wellness.

Wellness Environment (WE)

An incentive-based program focused on health promotion, illness prevention and behavioral change. The framework of WE is set-up to provide students with an environment to live and grow where making healthy choices is the norm, not the exception. Led by the UVM College of Medicine, WE teaches students how their behavior affects their brain, and their subsequent thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This knowledge is paired with accessible, health promoting resources to create an environment that incentivizes and rewards healthy decision making.
