Chitwood Hall
Finished in 1893, Chitwood is the youngest of the three buildings comprising Woodburn Circle. The building serves as the home of the Department of World Languages, Literatures and Linguistics which offers degree program in French, German, Russian, Spanish, Chinese and Italian. Many majors require students to take two to four semesters of a language. WVU offers placement exams, which allows students to place into higher levels of a language. This online placement test also allows a student to obtain credit for the classes they tested out of.

Language Placement Exam
Students who have studied a language before entering college have the opportunity to take the language placement exam. This allows students to place into a higher level language course instead of starting over with a 101 course. Correct placement in a language class can help you graduate earlier, save on tuition payments and boost your resume with second language certification. Placement may also help you get a head start on a World Languages major or minor and expand your study abroad opportunities.
