Alumni is the hub of student activity, as it hosts student spaces for meetings, hanging out and studying.
The Alumni Building houses the Black Cultural Center, the Carter G. Woodson Center for Interracial Education, the Espacio Cultural Latinx, the Student Life Offices, the Alumni Association Offices, the Mountaineer Dining Hall, and the Ground Floor - an area for student fun and recreation.
📣Carter G. Woodson Center for Interracial Education- The center is named after Dr. Carter G. Woodson, who was a Berea Alum. Woodson is the founder of Black History Week and he is known worldwide as the Father of Black History Month. He was the second African American to graduate from Harvard with a PHD, after W.E.B. DuBois. In his honor, the center is designed to promote interracial education.
📣Black Cultural Center- based on the premise that true integration and equality cannot be achieved without general awareness, understanding and appreciation of Black culture. The BCC is “The Gathering Place” and the space is designed for conversation, lounging, studying, meeting and hosting programs.
The Center also host the SUCCESS Mentoring Program, which provides support and assistance to incoming students who are transitioning to Berea College.
🍔Mountaineer Dining Hall - Food is served buffet style and there are multiple stations. An on-hand Nutritionist is here to speak with you about your allergy or dietary needs and restrictions. Don't have time to sit and eat? We have to-go boxes!
🥙About 10 % of all the greens in Mountaineer Dining Hall come from the Berea College farm. A wonderful farm to table option!
🥑Everything in our dining hall is also 100% sustainable. From the napkins you use to the food you don’t eat- everything will be composted!
📣CAB- Our Campus Activities Board is a student led initiative that brings important programing to campus and allows students to have fun! They work with our over 60 student led organizations
✨Espacio Cultural Latinx- Also known as the ECL- provide our Hispanic/Latinx community a safe space and build awareness and appreciation of Hispanic and Latinx culture through programming and activities. This is also a great gathering place for students to hang out when there isn’t programs being hosted!! Pool tables, video games, and study space.
