Hafer-Gibson houses the Labor Program Office, Human Resources, Conference Services, and Environmental Health & Safety.
The Work Program:
📘 Students work in hundreds of jobs in more than 120 different departments. Every student earns a Labor Transcript, which documents the labor positions they have held and how well they performed at each job. Students are required to complete at least 10 hours a week. Students earn a monthly paycheck and their pay level varies between jobs.
📘 Your first year you will be assigned a labor position and after that you can try to cater your position to your interests. We do have to fill essential labor positions first, which is dining, facilities management, grounds, and even the art department. You will submit a resume your first year and your experience as well as your intended major will influence what position you will receive. Depending on time and interests you may also apply for a secondary position after your first semester at Berea.
📘One of the great things about participating in the labor program is that you really gain a competitive edge amongst other students graduating at different universities because you not only will have work experience but you will also have a transcript that speaks to your capabilities.
