The Margaret A. Cargill (MAC) Natural Sciences and Health Building houses the College’s natural science disciplines, nursing and mathematics departments.
🥼 We unveiled the MAC building in the fall of 2018 with a huge, grand opening ceremony. Dr. Mae Jemison, the first African American woman in space, came to Berea to dedicate the new building in one of our convocation ceremonies.
🥼 The MAC building is our hub for STEM majors and minors. We have everything from geology to botany, chemistry to anatomy, and physics to astronomy.
🥼Along with the new building, the Nursing Program received two new $70,000 mannequins to use in their simulation labs. The mannequins can simulate live birth as well as life or death conditions. Simulations are designed to teach our nurses good protocol as well as good bedside manner, as the mannequins will code on our nurses if they do not introduce themselves to their patients.
🥼 Berea’s highly acclaimed nursing program is ranked fifth in the nation. Students gather experience in all types of nursing here and abroad. They leave here with a Bachelor’s in nursing so that they are well prepared to take their state boards. Berea nurses who take their boards have a 100% passing rate—something extremely rare for many nursing programs. Berea students are often offered funding for their state board examination.
🥼We are honored that alumnus John B Fenn donated his Nobel Prize to Berea which is on display. His research is known for the technique that advanced the production of medication.
