Located in the center of campus is the Mirabeau B. Lamar statue, “the head”, father of public education in Texas and
the 2nd President of the Republic of Texas. Lamar University was previously a junior college and received its university status in 1926.

The History department uses the exploration of the past to provide students the intellectual tools to become informed, responsible citizens. With emphases on critical thinking and writing, the study of history prepares students for careers in education, the law, government, business, museums, archival preservation, and historical editing and publishing.

The department specializes in the fields of American, European, Asian, and African history and offers both bachelor's and master's degrees.

The Lamar University Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics will suit you if you are seeking employment in industrial, governmental or private organizations that require a strong scientific background or if you are seeking to continue your academic career in either graduate school or professional/medical school.

You'll graduate with a functional knowledge of physics, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively use, discuss and write about the literature and trends of the discipline. The geosciences (geology and earth science) curriculum is intended to enable you to achieve success as professionals. With a Bachelor of Science degree in geology or earth science, you may find employment in the energy and other resource industries, in earth system sciences (environmental, atmospheric and oceanographic sciences), in government agencies and in K-12 teaching.

Houses our nutrition, nutrition-dietetics, hospitality management-culinary arts and family studies majors.


Home of the department with the most student orgs, within the College of Education and Human Development, our nutrition and culinary clubs join forces to educate our student body about healthy foods. Culinary students are busy year round competing in local cook offs, catering at local charity events, and hosting their own dinner series every semester.

The Undergraduate Advising Center (UAC) is where freshman and sophomores will meet with advisors; meeting with advisors is an important part of your career here at LU.

On the other side of the UAC is the Post office where students can rent a P.O. box for $15 a year.

All the classes that end in -ology can be found in the hallway between Archer and
the Barnes and Noble Bookstore.
