This clam shell-esque building is a 14,500-seat sports arena that buzzes with excitement during home games for men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, women’s gymnastics and men’s wrestling. The Coliseum also hosts Commencement ceremonies, concerts and lots of other events. WVU competes in the NCAA’s Division 1 and is a member of the Big 12 Conference. The WVU men’s basketball team has played in two Final Fours and one national championship game. A life-size Jerry West statue is outside of the Blue Gate, which honors this WVU alum who went on to fame in the Olympics and NBA (his silhouette is the NBA logo). WVU women’s basketball won 25 games in 2024 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament, playing eventual national runner-up Iowa in front of a 6.4 million television viewing audience.
