First-Year Quad and Residence Halls

Themed and Community Housing offer great options for students who want to live in a close-knit community surrounded by people who share their interests. Themed housing is meant to bring together students with overlapping academic, cultural, and organizational interests. Themed and Community Housing options are: the Bayit House; the Black Student Alliance House; Casa Emory; the Empowering First Community House; the Media, Literature, and Arts Outreach House (MLAO) ; and the German House. All of these options are designed for sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and they require an application process not included in the traditional process. They are great options for students who want to further their passion for a particular interest.

First-year students are required to live on campus in one of the first-year residence halls, where they will meet other first-years and build community. Students have options for single, double, and suite-style dorms, on either single-sex or co-ed floors. All floors will have Residential Advisors (RAs) and Sophomore Advisors (SAs). RAs are there for conflict resolution, roommate agreements, and to help students who are locked out, while SAs serve a more casual role. As sophomores, they just went through the same experience first-year students go through, so they serve as mentors and friends. First-year residence halls also have abundant programming to help build community.

Juniors and seniors live at the Clairmont Campus in several different buildings that provide options for one-, two-, three-, or four-bedroom apartments. It is home to its own fitness center, Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool, and the Clairmont Cafe—a dining option for students. The Clairmont Campus is right next to Lullwater Preserve, an on-campus nature preserve that features a variety of running and hiking trails. The Clairmont Campus is roughly a 15-minute walk from our main academic campus, but shuttles back and forth between the two are frequent even at night and on the weekends. The Clairmont Campus is a great option for juniors and seniors who want to keep the Emory community close.
