Math and Science Center
The Math and Science Center (or MSC) is the main home of the physical sciences on campus, with the Physics Department on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors, Math Department on the 4th floor, and Environmental Sciences Department on the 5th floor. MSC is one of the newer classroom buildings on campus, built in 2002, and it is kept up to date with state-of-the-art lab equipment used by undergraduates and professors alike for labs and research.

⭐ Sustainability
The Math and Science Center is a LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Gold certified building. Since its construction, all new buildings on campus have been LEED certified, with the Emory Student Center becoming the first LEED Platinum certified building on campus. Emory strives to promote sustainability in all facets of campus, from the buildings to the food to even the shuttle buses that run on used cooking oil from the dining halls.
⭐ Planetarium and Observatory
One of the most popular science courses for non-science majors is Introduction to Astronomy, where lectures take place in the MSC’s planetarium dome, allowing students a view of the stars from their seats. In addition, the course’s labs take place on the roof of the MSC, where students can use the various telescopes to perform observations of the night sky with less light pollution to worry about. The roof is also home to Emory’s astrophysical observatory dome, where professors and students perform research late into the night on the dome’s 24 inch telescope. A few times a year, the physics department holds public observation nights, giving a guest lecture on cool research happening in the astronomical world and then bringing the public up to the roof to look at the planets and Moon through the observatory’s telescopes.
