The Gooding Building houses social sciences classes like Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, and History, and also Education classes. Attached to the Gooding Building is the Gooding Auditorium, a lecture-style classroom. Gooding also houses the Study Abroad program and honors lounge for students looking for a place to study!

Pre-law
The Pre-Law program at Jacksonville University offers a unique series of support services to help students who are considering Law School or a career in public service. The program offers a Pre-Law certificate designed to provides students with an understanding of the legal profession and the foundational skills necessary to succeed in law school and expose students to the many areas of legal studies.
Political Science
Florida is a dynamic place to study politics and the public sector. As a political science student at Jacksonville University, you'll have access to several internship opportunities working with political campaigns as well as city and state government agencies. In addition, our campus is conveniently located ten minutes from City Hall in downtown Jacksonville. On-campus, we have a robust pre-law program and certificate for students interested in pursuing a law degree after graduation.
Social Sciences
The Social Sciences Major introduces students to the disciplines of economics, geography, history, international studies, political science, psychology, and sociology. This interdisciplinary degree program allows students to study the way people behave, interact with others, and organize societies.
Sociology
The Sociology program at JU focuses on the understanding of groups and organizations. Students majoring in this program are immersed into their studies through experiential learning opportunities for career preparation. Offering a major and two minors, the Sociology program meets the needs of a variety of employers by ensuring students have applied opportunities through internships, independent studies and service-learning.
Psychology
The Department of Psychology offers students insight into theoretical and applied areas of psychology. In this major, students take a variety of courses that focus on the fundamentals, research, and application of psychology. The major includes a selection of core psychology classes, along with research-oriented classes in cognitive and social psychology, and applied field psychology classes such as family therapy, and medical psychology.
SGEP
Sustainability, Geography, and Environmental Planning (SGEP) focuses on the relationship between humans and their environment, locally and globally. Our students are studying some of the most critical issues of our time, including globalization, natural hazards, climate change, resiliency, healthcare and emerging diseases. Students in SGEP also receive extensive training in geographic information systems (GIS), which is an invaluable tool for many careers including natural resource management, urban and environmental planning, and geoengineering.
History
Students majoring in history at Jacksonville University learn how to critically examine links between past events and the current day. Courses in this major prepare students to answer questions about politics, social justice, war, and cultural issues. Students gain a greater understanding of the historical context of today’s global challenges. This understanding and the critical thinking skills developed in this program, prepare graduates for a career in teaching, analysis, law, archives, business, and more.
