The Overpass
The Overpass is a bridge that leads to the Delmar Loop, connecting WashU with the city of St. Louis. Just a 10 minute walk north of campus, the Delmar Loop is a portion of Delmar Boulevard that is filled with restaurants, shops, and more. With many options for upperclassmen housing in the neighborhoods just beyond the Overpass, students can also live in the Lofts, a large new WashU-owned apartment-style housing complex located on the Loop.

🏙️ St. Louis
Washington University is IN St. Louis and is FOR St. Louis. As a medium-sized city, St. Louis offers all the amenities and opportunities of any major metropolitan area, with the feel, friendliness, and accessibility of a smaller town. Campus itself is situated on the border of St. Louis City and St. Louis County, placing us in more of a residential area. When you are on campus, you KNOW you are on campus! Our city is made up of a mosaic of neighborhoods, each bringing their own cultural flair and identity. Students are encouraged, and do, engage heavily with the city we call home. Through a free Metro Pass (or U-Pass), students have easy access to the city's bus system as well as the metro-link train service, with two stops on our campus - connecting you to St. Louis Lambert Airport, the WashU Medical Campus, Busch Stadium, and more!
Delmar Loop
Students love visiting the Loop with friends on the weekend. Popular restaurants on the Loop include Mission Taco Joint, PokeDoke, Salt & Smoke, Seoul Taco, and Pi Pizzeria. The Loop also has two concert halls, The Pageant and Delmar Hall, where students can easily attend concerts from artists such as Green Day and Bastille, or hear performances from comedians and speakers. The Delmar Loop is often identified as one of the top ten streets in America.
Downtown St. Louis
Home to the iconic Gateway Arch, Downtown St. Louis is located approximately 7 miles east of campus. Downtown is where you'll be able to catch a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game at Busch Stadium, a St. Louis Blues hockey game at Enterprise Stadium, and starting in 2023 you'll be able to catch the new MLS team, the St. Louis City SC.
But, sports are far from the only reason to head Downtown! Here is just a small taste of what else you'll find:
T-Rex Building: a tech startup incubator.
City Museum: a museum for people of all ages, where you can explore and climb through a historic shoe factory filled with repurposed architectural and industrial objects.
Ballpark Village: an entertainment complex located next to Busch Stadium, home to just a few of the countless incredible restaurants you will find throughout the city.
And so many more hubs of art, entertainment, and history!

Forest Park
WashU's next door neighbor to the east is Forest Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the nation! Forest Park covers 1326 acres, making it 500 acres larger than Central Park in New York City.
Many of St Louis's best attractions reside within the park, including the Saint Louis Art Museum, the Saint Louis Zoo, the Missouri History Museum, and the Saint Louis Science Center, all of which are FREE to visit! We encourage you to explore Forest Park for yourself to see all the beauty and history that it has to offer. Learn more here!
