Tarbutton Hall & Few Hall
Tarbutton Hall and Few Hall were restored and connected in 2001 to form the Tarbutton Performing Arts Center. Tarbutton is a space for students to explore music, theater, and more regardless of their experience level. Inside Tarbutton, there are individual practice rooms, larger rehearsal spaces and classrooms, and a 131 seat black-box theater. You might find a Music, Culture, and Society class in session, a local string quartet performing a concert free for students, or OxBroadway rehearsing for their upcoming musical.
⭐ Music and Theatre
There are many different ways students can get involved with performing arts at Oxford regardless of intended major or experience level. A number of academic courses are taught at Tarbutton that are part of the Music and Theater Studies departments, such as Stagecraft, Introduction to Acting, and Introduction to Theory and Composition. Students can also receive academic credit for taking private instrumental lessons or for participating in either Oxford Chorale or Oxford Chamber Ensemble. Other musical student organizations on campus include Oxapella and OxJazz. OxBroadway, the Drama Guild, and the Oxford Ensemble of Shakespearean Artists perform plays and musicals multiple times a semester, and students have opportunities to act, direct, or even submit plays they’ve written themselves. With only first and second-years on campus, students are often cast in leading roles or perform as soloists from their first semester on campus.
